Public Relations

PR Sub-Committee
7pm - 9pm, 3rd Friday of Every Month
SRC Room B-112, 1904 Richland Ave., Ceres

H&I, PI, Webservant, and Outreach subcommittees
now report to the PR subcommittee

What is PR?
Why public relations is important to the NA member
The Narcotics Anonymous message is "that an addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live."
Our relations with the public enable us to share this message broadly so that those who might benefit from our program of recovery can find us.
We perform public relations service to increase the awareness and credibility of the NA program.
We share our message openly with the public at large, with prospective members, and with professionals.
Maintaining an open, attractive attitude in these efforts helps us to create and improve relationships with those outside the fellowship.
Establishing and maintaining a commitment to these relationships, can help us to further our primary purpose.
The spiritual principles of our steps, traditions, and concepts guide us in pursuing our public relations aims and our efforts to enhance NA’s public image and reputation.
These principles apply to our community and service efforts as well as to the personal behavior and attitude of individual NA members.
The following points are goals that we can strive to fulfill in making NA a visible and attractive choice for addicts:
  1. We clarify what services NA can and cannot provide to the community.
  2. We make NA members more aware of their role in NA’s public image.
  3. We aim for the public to recognize NA as a positive and reliable organization.
  4. We develop valuable relationships with professionals and the general public.

now report to the PR subcommittee

What is H & I?
Hospitals & Institutions (H&I)
Services are provided by local committees through meetings/presentations to introduce those people attending to some of the basics of the Narcotics Anonymous program. They carry the NA message of recovery to addicts who do not have full access to regular NA meetings. Meetings or presentations are provided to hospitals, jails, addiction treatment facilities, detox centers, and other institutions.

Outreach

Outreach Sub-Committee
7pm - 9pm, 3rd Friday of Every Month beginning Aug 18th
SRC Room B-112, 1904 Richland Ave., Ceres

H&I, PI, Webservant, and Outreach subcommittees
now report to the PR subcommittee

What is Outreach?
Outreach
Outreach efforts have and will always exist within N.A. As long as there are groups isolated by any means, there will be a need for Outreach. Within Outreach we speak of Outreach the "verb" and Outreach the "noun." Any action to overcome isolation and assist N.A. members to sustain and enhance recovery and fellowship is Outreach the "verb." When we work together as a committee, accountable and responsible to those we serve, this is Outreach the "noun." Outreach is the bringing together of multiple service efforts initiated in local communities to meet their needs.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

What is PI?
Public Information (PI)
The Narcotics Anonymous message is "that an addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live." Our relations with the public enable us to share this message broadly so that those who might benefit from our program of recovery can find us. We perform public relations service to increase the awareness and credibility of the NA program. We share our message openly with the public at large, with prospective members, and with professionals. Maintaining an open, attractive attitude in these efforts helps us to create and improve relationships with those outside the fellowship. Establishing and maintaining a commitment to these relationships can help us to further our primary purpose.

From Jesse P

"Hi my name is Jesse P. and I was first introduced to the Just For Today Men's Retreat in 1993. I attended my first men's retreat in 1993 and have not found it necessary to miss one since. I have received life changing gifts as a result of attending the men's retreat on a yearly basis. I would not miss the men's retreat unless I was on my death bed. I believe that the men in the SVGNA would probably still be willing to take me there, even if they had to carry me around. That is what the men's retreat is all about men supporting men, no matter what! I would like to encourage anyone who has not been to the Just For Today Men's Retreat to make it a point to attend and give yourself a break. You have to be there to experience with your own heart what I am talking about. I am grateful for all the service that the Just For Today Men's meeting has done for all the members of NA. I am also proud to say that it is my home group and has been since I arrived in NA. I am honored to say that I have remained clean with the help and experiences I have received from the men's retreats that I have attended."

Clean since January 10, 1993

From Patrick O.

"In 1997 the retreat was in Pinecrest, I had around 90 days clean and my first sponsor made sure that I went. I was still tore up from active addiction, but nothing could stop the love I felt from the men when they welcomed me home. I have since grown to know many of these men on a much deeper level. It is the most important thing that I do yearly for my recovery, and each of the seven retreat's that I have attended since, hold a special place in my heart. I love you guys for showing me a new way to live, because I know that those who attend retreat's regularly stay clean. I was on last year's retreat committee and if my higher power guides me in that direction, I will do it again. If you are new to recovery and are feeling a little fear or intimidation, that's ok. Go to the Men's retreat anyway, that's all part of the process, I hope you feel the love that I have been afforded..."

"I went to my 1st Men's Retreat with only 21 days clean. It was one of the best experiences of my life and it changed the way I look at things. Today I have 337 days clean. Thank-you Narcotics Anonymous for teaching me a new way of life through the 12 Steps. Before I came to NA I had no family and very few friends. But now I have more friends and am not alone anymore. I can't wait for the next retreat with family and friends. One more time I'm very grateful, Thank-you Narcotics Anonymous."

"MY FIRST MEN'S RETREAT WAS A SILVER LAKE BACK IN 2003 UNTIL THAN I NEVER KNEW ABOUT IT AND I CAME HOME WITH A RECOVERY HIGH. FROM THAN ON NOW EVERY YEAR I GO. THANK GOD FOR NA."

"My first men's retreat was at Pinecrest in 97. I had between 30 and 60 days clean. I remember going to the "secrets workshop" very much afraid. By the time the meeting ended, I learned that there was nothing to be afraid of after all. We all shared our secrets with each other, and accepted each other, regardless of what our secrets were. I can't begin to describe the bonding that took place around that small group of men. I thank my higher power that I was given the opportunity, to join in that experience. I am now living in Salem, Oregon as of last year, and am proud to share with members here, the recovery that I brought with me from Modesto."

What is Literature Input and Review?
We write our own Story
By writing our own story concerning our recovery experience, we are able to carry the message through our literature. Our common welfare is always being rediscovered by this process and thus our program grows and evolves. The true meaning of Principles before Personalities comes to light as we come together for the common good of our fellowship. Our process for Literature production has been ever changing and growing, especially with the advancement of technology. Please visit these links to learn how your recovery is needed to continue to carry the message through our Literature Process. All Members are welcome and needed to participate.

A member may not realize that participation with the literature process is a very necessary part of "Being of Service". Some members have pre-judged themselves as not worthy to contribute. This is a very common miss-conception. As each one of us has value when sharing at an NA meeting, the value of what we produce in writing is no different. When we carry the message that no one need ever die from the horrors of addiction; that hope turns into the reality of no longer living the nightmare; our written word is only of value as it continues to be written by its own members.

When our members input has been compiled and produced into review form then it is our responsibility as members to review this material before publication. The first link is to the Home Page of the current project. This page is providing all information necessary for our participation. The second link is to other projects and surveys that also provides a place to participate.
